Insurance organisations today are no more effective at delivering on large-scale data management initiatives than they were 10 years ago. In a recent survey, 70% of the companies said their data management initiatives did not deliver the expected results. That success rate was unchanged from similar surveys conducted in the 1990's. And the environment for data management is only getting more complex.....

In order to achieve these challenging aims, Scyllogis collaborated closely with TMEI’s in-house IT department and this was one of the key reasons why the project was successfully completed within a five month timeframe.
Chris Gordge says, “The Scyllogis solution is written using XML and .NET; essentially a rules-based, layered environment that can handle both current and new data sources. The innovative modular design allows incremental addition of new functionality while enabling significant re-use of core components. New modules to handle new data sources can be plugged in with the minimum impact to the core application.”
Colin Whickman of Scyllogis continues, “We wanted to craft a solution that would of course solve the immediate problems being encountered when we started. But by architecting the software as a layered and modular structure, new data formats and content could be added with minimal disruption.
“This was a visionary design that sought to pre-empt the future requirements that Tokio Marine Europe would no doubt have. Our objective was to provide a significant degree of future proofing.”
Now that the interface application developed by Scyllogis has gone live the two companies have continued to work closely together to explore new ways in which to improve and streamline the information flow between the agents’ insurance processing systems and TMEI’s GENIUS application.
This has already identified an immediate opportunity to leverage further benefit in the area of direct insurance writing, as Chris Gordge explains, “We use a third party front end insurance writing system that is also written in .NET. Scyllogis collaborated with the software house involved to interface its system more closely with our GENIUS back office. Integration of this third party application was achieved by ‘plugging in’ new modules, which again demonstrated re-use of core components.
The Benefits
By drawing on Scyllogis’ extensive market, business and technical expertise Tokio Marine Europe has now put in place a technology solution that has helped it to:
• Improve efficiency – the time taken to produce accurate, consolidated reports on its insurance book has been reduced, in line with its own commercial requirements as well as the burgeoning demands on the insurance sector from its regulator, the UK’s Financial Services Authority. • Reduce costs and risk – by automating data capture, removing the need for bespoke interfaces and manual data input. This, in turn, has helped eliminate key man dependency. • Improve operational flexibility – the standardised technical architecture of the new solution can be scaled and modified to accommodate evolving business needs. |
