ImageACE Overseas Group (Formerly ACE International). A subsidiary of the Bermudan based insurance company ACE Limited.  (http://www.acelimited.com/)

Project Duration:

Started November 2001 for 22 months

Client Profile:

ACE Overseas Group is a global insurance carrier operating in 40 countries. It writes a portfolio of commercial insurance across the client spectrum, from SMEs to multinational corporations.  Most ‘lines’ of business are written including property, liability, professional risk, marine, political risk, accident & health, aerospace and some consumer products. Premium income of £6.5billion makes it one of the world’s largest and truly multi-national insurers.

Client Objectives

ACE Overseas Group grew by acquisition. Consequently, the challenge to management was to integrate these disparate operations into a single, cohesive, multi-national company. The problem was compounded by the geographical and cultural diversity of the operations.  ACE saw the key objectives as:

• Introduction of  ‘best of breed’ processes across the group
• Introduction of systems that imposed strict underwriting disciplines to ensure long term profitability
• Provision of management information to allow the full control of a global business
• Ensuring that ACE clients enjoyed the same level of service irrespective of location
• Driving process efficiencies and utilize IT wherever possible to reduce costs

Scyllogis’ Role:

Scyllogis were engaged as lead consultants on a programme designed to deliver the above objectives.  Although the programme comprised ACE staff from around the world, as well as other consultancies and software vendors, Scyllogis were wholly responsible for ensuring delivery of core programme elements and designed the global data model that would provide the required level of management information.

Why Scyllogis?

Scyllogis were chosen for the project because we were able to:

• Provide consultants who had a proven track record of multi-national projects that necessitated building relationships with culturally diverse people
• Demonstrate previous success in delivering projects that involved enterprise-wide complex change
• Architect innovative solutions and ‘sell’ these ideas to a sometimes skeptical business
• Work with ACE in a ‘hands-on’ fashion to deliver results

How Scyllogis Delivered Tangible Value:

Scyllogis’ operational style created an inclusive environment where different nationalities and personalities came together to jointly solve problems. Within this atmosphere we were able to gain consensus from the business.   Results provided included:

• Development of an ‘enterprise model’ comprising processes, systems and data definitions that were signed off by the global stakeholders meting the client objectives defined above, providing a solution that all felt they ‘owned’
• A feasibility study and project plan for the pilot implementation in Canada
• A feasibility study and project plan for the next two implementations in Ireland and UK
• Knowledge transfer to ACE staff in order to allow them to continue roll-out of the ‘enterprise model’

ACE's involvement with Scyllogis has been in receipt of experienced Lead Business Analyst resource, to provide analytical leadership, industry and product knowledge in delivery of a major IT package development. Throughout the period of employ we found the resource assigned to be highly professional in approach, demonstrating excellent product and industry knowledge, particularly in the identification and presentation of appropriate IT solutions to out business needs.....'
