Do you use any structured methodologies?
Scyllogis Consaultants manage our projects according to PRINCE2 methodologies. We have our own ‘top down’ approach to analysis and requirements gathering and write the business and functional specifications according to a template that has been refined over time through experience. These templates are designed to facilitate the user sign off in the most time efficient way.
What is your approach to software development?
We prefer to use an ‘agile’ approach that sees small, frequent software deliveries and simple succinct requirements specifications, especially in solutions that have significant user interaction. The ‘Scrum’ methodology we feel has many benefits. For complex, more technical software, such as system integration tasks, then there is really no substitute for detailed technical specifications.
Will you take over the maintenance of existing systems?
This would depend largely on the technology of the system. If it was one of the technologies that we operate with (J2E, .NET, UNIX or iSeries) then we would certainly be interested in holding further discussions.
Will you consider our staff being included as resource on software development assignments working under management of Scyllogis?
Yes we will. We have accommodated this request on several occasions in the past and we can always utilise our client's personnel working alongside and under the guidance of Scyllogis resources.
Can you undertake overseas projects?
Many of our projects have included a requirement to locate consultants overseas. In addition we partner with other, similar organizations to increase our international coverage. We have also successfully undertaken software development where the ultimate recipient of the solution was not UK based.
Do you utilise off shore development resource?
We have not done so to date. The reason for this is twofold: Firstly, we are not convinced that this delivers the imagined savings. The development daily rates are certainly lower but more ‘water tight’ specification is needed that increases the necessary effort from the more expensive analysts. More project management is needed (again from the more expensive resources) and the development tends to take longer thereby making a fasle economy of the seemingly cheaper daily rate. Secondly, the remoteness of offshore does not lend itself to the agile approach, where constant interaction between users, analysts and developers is key.
