| Industry News | |
| Thursday, 19 January 2012 | |
|
The Chartis p/c division of New York-based AIG has divided its operations into three geographic regions concurrent with the departure of Julio Portalatin, president and CEO of Chartis Growth Economics and the AIG senior vice-president who oversaw operations in the Asia/Pacific, South Asia, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Central Europe. Paring back from four geographic regions into the new Americas, Asia and Europe-Middle East-Africa regions "will create a more efficient regional framework", Chartis CEO Peter Hancock said, adding that the p/c group would focus on emerging markets, "aligning them under our top regional executives". Peter Eastwood, currently president and CEO for Chartis in the US and Canada, will head the new Americas region, which includes US, Canada, Latin America and Bermuda. Jose Hernandez, president and CEO of Chartis' Far East operations, will assume responsibility for the new Asia region, adding China, Indonesia and Vietnam to his current responsibilities for Japan and Korea. Chartis chief financial officer Robert Schimek has been named president and CEO of the new Europe, Middle East and Africa region. Alexander Baugh, who previously oversaw Chartis' Europe region, has been named Chartis chief risk officer, replacing Samir Shah, who has been named the division's head of reinsurance. James Bracken has been named to succeed Mr Schimek as CFO after having served as his deputy. Meanwhile, Mr Portalatin, who had been with AIG since 1993 after 12 years with Allstate, has been named president and CEO of the Mercer human resources division of global broking and consulting group Marsh & McLennan Cos.
