| ALLIANZ COULD HELP OUT COMMERZBANK THROUGH STAKE RECLASSIFICATION |

Germany's Commerzbank could receive a welcome €750m boost to its capital levels if European insurer Allianz agrees to a reclassification of its non-voting capital stake. Citing two sources familiar with the discussions, Reuters said that it was not yet clear in what manner Allianz would modify its holding, although the insurer's CFO Oliver Bäte has said that Allianz would not want to suffer financially from any changes to the stake's classification. Allianz inherited its "silent participation" when it sold Dresdner Bank to Commerzbank in 2008. Non-voting share capital does not count as core capital as far as European regulators are concerned because the risk in holding it is less than the risk associated with holding common equity. Commerzbank is looking to raise some €5.3bn in additional core capital by the middle of this year.
