| Industry News | |

|
Re/insurers Allied World Assurance Co Holdings and Argo Group International at the weekend each announced expected catastrophe-related losses to be charged against Q4 earnings. Switzerland-based Allied World said that it would see total cat losses of $55m to $65m for the period, with $40m to $50m tied to recent flooding in Thailand and $15m attributable to updates of losses from disasters during the first nine months of 2011. The group said that loss estimates were only preliminary and actual cat losses could "vary materially". Bermuda's Argo expects to record pre-tax cat losses of $25m to $35m for Q4, all tied to the Thai flooding. Argo's estimate is net of reinsurance and reinstatement premiums.
