| AXA QUITS IRISH INSURANCE FEDERATION ON GROUNDS OF COST |

French insurer Axa has left the Irish Insurance Federation (IIF) on grounds of cost, reports the Irish Independent. Axa Ireland boss John O'Neill told the newspaper that in the current economic client it was impossible to justify the cost of membership, said to have been about €220,000 ($285,000) in 2010. Quitting the IIF could save the insurer €100,000 a year, the report claimed. The move by Axa, which becomes effective in February, will be a stark reminder to industry lobbying organizations that they cannot take insurer membership for granted. IIF chief executive Mike Kemp insisted that the IIF delivered value for money, while rival insurers are likely to be unhappy that Axa would benefit from any successful industry lobbying by IIF without having contributed to the cost. Mr Kemp said that costs for other members would "rise slightly". He did not anticipate that any other insurers would leave.
