The non-life sector in Brazil faces challenges in the coming year because of barriers to competition and low levels of efficiency, according to a new report from BRICdata. The company said that these challenges exist despite healthy levels of growth over the past five years. Other challenges that the industry would have to face included the danger of a double-dip recession in the US and the ongoing financial crisis in Europe. BRICdata noted that 10 companies in Brazil accounted for two-thirds of non-life business in brazil in 2010, and that in the future it was expected that the regulatory environment would become more restrictive with the imposition of new regulatory controls. The regulator SUSEP recently announced stricter regulations for risk management covering the non-life market.
