| DEATH TOLL RISES FROM COSTA CONCORDIA |
| Industry News | |

|
The number of confirmed deaths as a result of Italian cruise ship Costa Concordia capsizing on January 13 close to the Italian island of Giglio has risen to seven, with 28 people still missing. The news that another body had been discovered came as reports emerged of a Facebook posting by the sister of the ship's head waiter, Antonello Tievoli, who comes from Giglio. Patrizia Tievoli was on the island and reportedly posted on the social network site that the ship was going to pass "really close" to the coast. Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera said that the waiter did not request the "sail-by". Mr Tievoli's father, Giuseppe, was quoted in the Italian newspaper as saying that the ship often passed close to the island. Italian news agency ANSA also reported that the ship's captain Francesco Schettino was "evasive" when ordered by a port official to supervise the rescue from the top of an emergency ladder at the bow of the ship. The port official is recorded on the black box as saying "What are you doing? Are you abandoning the rescue? ... There are already bodies". The Captain merely replied "How many?" to which the port official said "That is for you to tell me. What are you doing? Do you want to go home?". ANSA claimed that the crew effectively decided on an evacuation before the formal order was given by the captain.
