| FOY TAKES OVER FROM UTLEY AS HEAD OF IAG IN THE UK |
| Industry News | |
| Wednesday, 28 July 2010 | |
|
Insurance Australia Group (IAG) has appointed Ian Foy as CEO of its UK operations, succeeding Neil Utley. Mr Foy will take over from September 1; Mr Utley will help with the changeover until September 30. The company thanked Mr Utley for his work "in a challenging market environment during the past three years". At the beginning of June IAG announced a significant deterioration in UK claims experience, and was forced to slash its margin guidance by 3.5pp to between 6% and 7%. It booked an AUD60m ($54.1m) charge for a reinsurance deal that limited its exposure to future deterioration. IAG chief executive Mike Wilkins said that, with the programme of remedial action in place, it had been mutually agreed with Mr Utley that it was the right time to introduce new leadership. New IAG UK head Ian Foy has been CEO of IAG's New Zealand operation for the past two years. His industry experience includes more than a decade in the UK with General Accident and later Aviva. IAG's New Zealand business will be led from November 1 by Jacki Johnson, currently CEO of IAG's online operation The Buzz. Karl Armstrong will act as interim CEO of the New Zealand business until November 1. Leona Murphy will succeed Ms Johnson in running the online business.
