UK-based, Bermuda-registered insurer Lancashire Holdings has increased its estimated net loss as a result of the Japan earthquake to $117.3m, from a previous estimate of $75.2m. Lancashire said that the significant increase was "mostly related to the Company's exposure to one significant cedant". Lancashire said that it had now reserved in full its remaining exposure to that client. Meanwhile, Lancashire has also published its first estimate of losses as a result of the floods in Thailand. For Q4 2011 the net loss is put at between $24m and $28m. Lancashire said that it had no direct exposure to the Thai flood losses emanating from the Japanese reinsurance treaty products, including the Japanese Interest Abroad (JIA) placements.
