| MARKEL BUYS STAKE IN GERMAN UNDERWRITING AGENCIES |

US-based non-life group Markel is to buy 50% of German underwriting agencies Anglo Underwriting and Fidelis, with an option to take a 100% stake. Garlich Wulff established the business in 2005 and is selling his stake in both companies. His son Frederick is managing director and owns the other 50%. Wulff junior told Insurance Day that "I will remain on board and I am firmly committed to this chance". Lloyd's agency Anglo Underwriting and Fidelis administer about 8,000 mainly industrial and commercial contracts. Frederick Wulff said that "we will route some business to Markel, but will also remain committed to our existing partners". Anglo Underwriting works with Ascot, Amlin, Hardy and Würth Group unit Waldenburger. Fidelis works mainly with Bermuda-domiciled Hiscox.
