Illinois-based broking group Arthur J Gallagher & Co has closed 2011 with net income of $144.1m, a decline of 17.2% that in part reflected a Q4 2010 tax benefit of $20.2m. Total commissions, fees, contingent commissions and supplemental commissions rose 16.9% to $2.09bn, with organic growth of 2.8% in broking commissions and fees and 12.8% in supplemental commissions and a decline of 6.3% in contingent commissions. Fees in its risk management segment posted 9.4% organic growth. For Q4, the group saw net earnings drop 26% to $40.5m thanks to the year-earlier tax benefit on total commissions and fees of $556.6m, up 19.9%.  Per-share earnings of 35¢ were 16¢ below the 2010 period but 2¢ ahead of analysts' forecast.
