Insurance Australia Group (IAG) said yesterday that its Australia Direct and CGU brands had received about 24,000 claims as a result of the storms that struck Victoria around Christmas Day. IAG currently expects its losses to be between AUD180m and AUD200m ($184m to $205m), a loss level similar to that expected by major rival Suncorp. The insurer that this would take its losses for the first half of financial year 2011-12 to between AUD400m and AUD420m, compared with a natural peril budget of AUD266m.
