| VIG REPORTS 2011 GAIN OF NEARLY €560M |
| Industry News | |
| Wednesday, 25 January 2012 | |
|
Vienna Insurance Group (VIG) has said that it will be reporting a net profit of nearly €560m ($729m) for 2011, up about 10% from the €505m reported for 2010. Total premiums were up by 3.4% to €9bn, with non-life business rising 4.9% to €5.1bn. Life business grew by 1.4% year on year to €3.9bn. The combined ratio will be about 97%. VIG is proposing a 3.6% rise in dividend. VIG, which has been acquisitive in the past few years, seemed to play down the prospect of further purchases in 2012. It stated in its outlook for the year that it would "promote the organic growth in premiums". Although 2011 was a bad year globally for natural catastrophes, Europe and its domestically focused insurers had a relatively benign claims experience, with no event as significant as 2010's windstorm Xynthia.
